Cincinnati at Georgia Tech - 11/23/2024 - Game Recap

ATLANTA – No. 18 Cincinnati delivered a commanding 81-58 victory over Georgia Tech on Saturday, led by Dillon Mitchell’s 14 points and 11 rebounds, marking his first double-double of the season. The Bearcats improved to 5-0, showcasing their readiness for tougher competition by excelling in their first test against a major conference opponent. Jizzle James and Cole Hickman also contributed 14 points each, helping Cincinnati dominate from start to finish.

The game opened with a basket by Georgia Tech, but Cincinnati’s defense quickly turned the tide. Forcing seven turnovers in just six minutes, the Bearcats went on a decisive 14-2 run that set the tone early. Their stifling defense continued throughout the game, holding Georgia Tech to just 58 points—far below their season average of 82—and outscoring the Yellow Jackets 44-28 in the paint.

Naithan George led Georgia Tech (2-3) with 13 points, including three 3-pointers, while Duncan Powell added 10 points. However, the team struggled offensively, shooting just 36% from the field and a lackluster 55% from the free-throw line. Leading scorer Baye Ndogo was held to just five points as the Yellow Jackets were unable to overcome Cincinnati’s relentless defense.

Cincinnati’s offense complemented its defensive effort with efficient shooting, hitting 41% from beyond the arc (9 for 22) and 52% overall (32 for 62). Their balanced attack and strong inside play were too much for Georgia Tech to handle.

Both teams return to action on Wednesday, with Cincinnati hosting Alabama State and Georgia Tech continuing its seven-game homestand against Charleston Southern.
